ALTHOUGH girls participated vigilantly in the CHOGM competition at Merryland High School, boys scored highly and swept most of the posts, leaving girls with only one post for a queen.

Their deputy headteacher, Sylvester Oundo, presided over the ceremony. He said the exercise would boost the student’s Civic Education, as they understand more about the Commonwealth.

Diana Kirabo, S.3, was elected as Her Majesty the Queen, beating six others to the position.

Elisha Gasana, S.2 was elected as Prince Phillip, (husband to the Queen). Bonny Sewaali, S.5 was appointed Secretary General, and Ivan Mugume, S.5, scooped the post of President, Yoweri Museveni. Twenty students were elected to represent other countries.

The school’s mock CHOGM summit has been set for October 19-20.

Kirabo hailed The New Vision for the CHOGM pullouts, which she says has helped them to learn more about the Commonwealth.

Mugume won after he convinced the electorate that if he was elected, he would deal with the floods issue and raise standards of Ugandans.
