Bombers set for us meet

NATIONAL boxing captain Sharif Bogere will lead the national team- The Bombers - tomorrow to the World Boxing Championships due in Chicago, USA. The championship is due October 22 – November 3.

The five-man team, four from Kampala and another from the US, will be joined by local amateur boxing federation –UABF- president Roger Ddungu.

Ddungu is already in the US arranging the team’s boarding details.

Philip Adyak (fly), Ismail Miwendo (feather), Bogere (light weight) and Edward Akora (lightwelter) will be joined by America-based Andrew Nyakana (bantam) at the championships.

Rio Group, owned by the boxing boss, facilitated the Bombers and two officials travel with sh29m.

The money has catered for the team’s air tickets and allowances.

The top performers at the championships qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

UABF publicist Sande Musoke yesterday confirmed the team’s readiness for the event.

“The tickets are ready and the players have got their visas. They are now looking forward to the event,” said Musoke.

The team will be treated to a luncheon at Lugogo before the departure.

National coach Musa Kent, who handled the boxers in the Africa Boxing Championships in Mauritius and All Africa Games in Algeria, will be in charge with Dr. Ntege Ssengendo as the team manager/doctor.
