SHE is one of the best muscians from Western Uganda. Doris Mutahunga’s debut hit single Keitetsi, has caused a stir in Western Uganda, subsequently earning her two nominations in the Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) Awards.

Mutahunga is in contention for the Western Artiste of The Year and Best Folk Pop Artist accolades. Her other song, Ninkukunda is also steadily making its way up the local radio charts.

A Makerere University music graduate and a music teacher at Maryhill High School in Mbarara, Mutahunga’s first professional recording was One World, which she released last year.

Even though she says she did this song just out of passion, One World proved a worthwhile effort and many encouraged her to consider singing professionally.
This prompted Keitetsi, the song that has consequently propelled Mutahunga into the glare of publicity.

Sung in her native Kinyankore, the song chronicles the life of an Ankole girl — from childhood till the time she is given away by her parents, in the Kinyankore traditional give-away ceremony, okuhingira.

The song picked up very fast and within no time, deals for Mutahunga to perform at various Kinyankore give-away ceremonies started flowing in.

Propelled by the success of Keitetsi, Mutahunga never looked back. She opened up her own recording studio, Dove Sounds, which has since churned out all her music.
