MOBILE phones keep getting better and better. Everyday you are lured to cast your old handset away for the latest toy on the market.

Yesterday, it was the Motorazr that was ‘in’, and thousands went after it. Today Blackberry is all the rage. This new mobile phone has taken the whole world by storm so much that celebrities like Britney Spears and Halle Berry, among others, cannot do without it.

Many of the people in Kampala had, until recently, only seen the Blackberry on TV and in glossy magazines. But now it is on sale in town for as low as sh968, 000.

At long last Kampalans can share in the latest in-style communication accessory.
The Blackberry is available at the Celtel House at Lugogo Show Grounds or Wampeewo Avenue. Fully-connected handsets only, please.

At sh968, 000, one also gets a travel charger, a USB cable, a wired stereo headset, bluetooth, a belt holster and a manual.

The Blackberry is more like a laptop than a mobile phone. It is relatively tall and slim thus easy to slip inside a pocket or a purse. But besides sending and receiving calls or SMS, it can be used for typing business documents.

It can also be used to take, edit and email pictures. It also keeps travel maps and keeps track of the latest Forex rates.

The voice dailling function helps one make calls faster and for caller ID purposes, you can assign a photo to a contact or create groups in convenient categories.

The Blackberry also comes with a still camera that has a flash, a video camera as well as an mp3 player. Such superb qualities have only been rivaled by the latest 3G mobile phones that cost even more than the Blackberry.

Other features include a calendar, a task list, a memo pad, an alarm, a calculator and the Blackberry Maps application. The latter is particularly useful, as it gives you maps as well as text-based driving directions.

And with our loadshedding, the battery is handy as it can last as long as two weeks.
