PAY television GTV and soccer governing body FUFA have agreed that the Super League teams with biggest fan bases will be the ones to enjoy live brodcasts.
It has also been agreed that the live coverages will be done only at Mandela Stadium, Namboole because it is the only one technologically suitable.
KCC, Villa and Express are the ones to benefit from the decision. The league kicks off on November 2, with SC Villa hosting Express at Namboole.
This means KCC and Express will have to play some of their home games ‘away’.
GTV has also agreed to meet costs of hosting matches at the stadium and compensate Express and KCC whose games have been moved from Wankulukuku and Nakivubo respectively.
“We want to sell a good image of Ugandan football and it will not make sense to televise games in empty stadiums. This must be a challenge for champions URA FC to attract fans in order to feature in future live broadcasts,†FUFA publicist Rogers Mulindwa said yesterday.
GTV will televise two delayed league games weekly.
GTV will increase coverage of live games to 12 matches next season before doubling the number in the 2009/2010 season.
But Mulindwa could not say how much each club would get in compensation for a match shifted.
Under the arrangement, GTV will bag 40% of the net collections while the clubs take 22.5% each and FUFA takes the remaining 15.
Express will return for their second televised game against KCC on November 17, before Villa hosts KCC on January 17.
