THE Bishop of Ankole Diocese, the Rev. George Tibeesigwa, has appealed to the Government to subsidise operations of private universities.

“Private universities are important in promoting education in the country. They have produced a number of graduates in the last 25 years,” he said.

“It would not have been possible for public universities to educate all these students. As the enrollment increases in higher institutions of learning, it is time the Government paid attention and assisted these private institutions.”

Tibeesigwa was officiating at the 9th graduation at Ndejje University on Friday, during which 565 students were awarded degrees and diplomas in various fields.

Of these, 315 were male and 250 were female.

Tibeesiga observed that the country still lacked quality education.

“This can be improved if the Government brings private universities on board in terms of funding.”

He also advised the graduates to be disciplined.

The chancellor, Prof. Stephen Talitwala, cautioned the graduates against being carried away by worldly pleasures.

“Education without a spiritual aspect will only lead to training of clever wrongdoers who will be hard to arrest. This calls for scrutiny of the graduates we release.”

In attendance was Khiddu Makubya, the Attorney General.
