THE Rwoth Ubimu of Ker Alur (King of Alur), Philip Olarker Rauni III, is expected back in the country on October 29. He has been living in the UK for a decade.

Sources within the kingdom said the king, who has been pursing studies abroad, would permanently take charge of the Alur throne at Kaal Atyak in Nebbi district upon his return.

“He left the country several years ago after completing his Senior Four studies at Ombaci College. He graduated in Economics and Geography,” said the Jadipu (prime minister) of the kingdom, Prince Angala Opar Jalumvor Jalsonge II. Rwoth Olarker is among the cultural kings recognised by the Government.

He last visited the country briefly in May 2006 for his enthronement.

In a press release, Angala said the kingdom had set up committees to coordinate the entertainment, protocol, transport, security, the media and welfare activities when the king returns.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Friday, Angala said the king’s return would also pave way for the coronation ceremony, which will be attended by President Yoweri Museveni and various government representatives.

“The enthronement was a private affair but the coronation will present the first opportunity for the President and other government officials to interact with the king,” Angala said.

He called on the Alur chiefs, clan heads and the royal council to prepare people from Nebbi to receive Olarker at Entebbe Airport.

Angala said the Kaal Atyak convention had been postponed.
