THE Police have arrested six suspected car vandals. The suspects, among them a self-styled pastor, are being held at Kira Road Police Station. They were picked up over the weekend. The group suspected to be hiring vehicles to commit crimes, is also linked to snatching bags and laptops.

The thugs use master keys to break into cars. A number of such keys and two suspected stolen laptop computers were also seized.

Paraded before the press yesterday were ‘pastor’ Moses Kamya alias Anikwa, a resident of Nansana, Bashir Walusimbi and Michael Nsubuga of Lubiji and Kajjansi zones in Wakiso district, John Ssebana Kizito (not former mayor), Sozi Kayinja of Bunamawaya and Abdu Kuku of Nateete.

They were arrested at Kenjoy Supermarket in Bukoto, a city suburb, when they allegedly tried to break into a Pride Micro Finance vehicle to steal sh5m.
The driver gave chase and caught up with one of the thugs and wrested the briefcase from him.

The thug fled and jumped into a get-away green Toyota Prado, which sped off followed by a minibus, the Police said.
“We traced the owner of the Prado as Mohammed Miro who disclosed that Kamya had hired the vehicle at sh120,000 per day. The minibus belongs to Sheikh Ismael Mbowa who had hired it to Ssebana for sh60,000 a day,” said Kampala Police spokesman Simeo Nsubuga.
