EDITOR—I am very upset that Kampala International University (KIU) has decided to lock out students who have not fully paid tuition fees. Can you imagine the university gates being closed and students tossed around by the gatekeepers! We know kiu is a private university but its administrators should be able to think of other means of getting this money.
What do other universities do? Students are not allowed to sit for exams until they are fully paid up. At least this way they do not miss studies.
Locking out students is counter-productive because it contributes to poor performance which reflects badly on KIU’s image. many students are salaried workers and have to wait for their salaries.
