ARAPAPA’S recent tour of the United States was meant to be a simple fashion showcase at the Uganda North American Association convention, but it exceeded the proprietor’s expectations.

Arapapa was exhibiting at this year’s UNAA convention, which took place in San Francisco.

For Santa Anzo and her fashion house, this was a chance not only to market Ugandan fashion globally, but also to create a partnership with American fashion and modeling outlets.

“This (UNAA) is the biggest annual celebration for Ugandans in the diaspora. The event attracts Ugandans from all parts of the world and it exudes some sense of unity among them,” said Anzo on her arrival from the US.

The demand for Ugandan fashion surpassed Anzo’s supply.. “They bought nearly everything I had carried with me,” she said adding that the ‘Be black, be gold’ collection is a favourite amongst Ugandans who like haute couture or high fashion.
I
n attendance at the convention was Jack C. Ellis, the Mayor of Georgia, who invited Arapapa to a cocktail at the City Hall in Maco, Georgia.

In Georgia, Anzo attended the Georgia Hall of Fame Music Awards in Atlanta—which were also happening at that time—where she rubbed shoulders with Grammy Awards-winning singer, RnB star, Usher Raymond and his producer Reid.

Arapapa has been invited to showcase in Los Angeles, Chicago, Florida and Atlanta in the first quarter of 2008.
