Prevention is the only remedy against wood beetles

WOOD-boring beetles are brownish to reddish insects which feed on wood, although adults may bore holes into plaster and plastic materials. They invade houses if infested firewood is stored inside, from which they may attack and damage structural and decorative wood and furniture.

Control measure

These beetles are difficult to control once an infestation has begun. Prevention is the best management method and sanitation is the most important aspect of prevention. Remove and destroy dead tree stumps or logs around the home. Protect wood from infestation by using varnish to seal cracks where eggs could be laid. With a heavy infestation, removing and replacing infested wood is the only solution.
