THE Bafumbira in Kisoro district have been urged to marry the Batwa pygmies.
The call was made by the Kisoro district vice-chairman, Joseph Sebatwale, during the signing of a memorandum between the communities living around Echuya Forest and the National Forest Authority.
Sebatwale expressed concern over the continued marginalisation of the Batwa by the Government and other communities, following their eviction from the forest 10 years ago.
The western Uganda range manager, Patrick Musime, said the agreement would enable the communities sustainably manage the forest resources.
The executive director of Nature Uganda, Achilles Byaruhanga, called upon the Government to extend the programme to national parks and gazetted areas.
