EDITOR—On Friday, it was reported that the surveying of Kitante Primary School land had started. This shows the continued threat of school land in the city under the pretext of developers. It is on record that Shimoni was demolished under the ‘CHOGM syndrome’ that a Saudi investor was going to put up a five-star hotel.

Today, not even the foundation has been laid and the place is a den of thieves in the city centre! Students and pupils of the college and demonstration school were hurriedly relocated to kololo and Mbale which caused a lot of strife to thm. Now this rises suspicion as to why the schools were demolished in such an indecent hurry.

Kitante is now the target. It may have begun with one investor but soon others will join the queue and eventually the school might also be relocated like Shimoni.

Why don’t the investors target other areas in the country?

There are so many areas which would be viable for such developments.

Why only the city centre? Such concentration of vital facilities is also a cause of regional inequality in Uganda. There is need to preserve those old institutions as we put up more. Why not first evaluate all the investment proposals?
