SAMUEL Nyaga leads the Kenyan in the Uganda Open CHOGOM Special darts championship in Kampala this weekend.
The Kenya Telecom darts club kingpin is among a field of 86 Kenyan players who arrived yesterday.

The two-day event gets underway at Regency Hotel, Bakuli on Saturday.

The first batch of 20 Tanzanians and a similar number of Kenyans arrived yesterday.

The Uganda field of over 130 players will be led by Aojan Orisa, Ronald Kalete, Chris Wabwire, Steel Okello and Mathia ‘Cobra’ Okwir.

Other teams expected today in the Nile Breweries-sponsored championship are Zambia, Botswana, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia and South Africa.

The meet is organised by Uganda Darts Association (UDA) as a sporting highlight for the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kampala.

According UDA boss Abbey Ariong, over 400 darts players are expected to take part.

“This is the biggest tournament ever. It is a good chance of raising the standard of the game in the region,” noted Ariong yesterday.
Ariong said the meet offers chance of lobbying for a world ranking event.
