THE prize money for this year’s edition of the MTN Kampala International Marathon has been increased to forster greater competition. Communications company MTN is the sponsor of the fourth edition that will start and finish at Shoprite, Lugogo on December 9.

The firm’s senior consumer marketing manager Philip Besiimire yesterday said that the prize money had been increased due to the increased public interest in the event. Over 6,000 participants are set to take part.

Registration is taking place at the local athletics federation headquarters at Metropole House in Kampala, and at all MTN service centres across the country.

The marathon winners will each walk away with prize money of sh5m, a 25% increase from last year’s package of sh4m. The same prize money will be given out for both men and women events in each category.

All the proceedings from the race will go towards the Red Cross Mama Bag project and Return Kit for the people in the war-ravaged north that are trying to re-settle displaced persons.
