SECURITY personnel in Kampala yesterday arrested two people trying to enter the Nakasero State House premises. A man and a woman, carrying fetishes that included a white cock, claimed they had a special message for President Yoweri Museveni.

The Kampala Extra Police spokesman, Simeo Nsubuga, said Kasajja Sserwaniko and Nambi Bbeererimu of Walussi hills in Luweero district, were arrested at the main gate to State House and were later charged with criminal trespass with intent to annoy.

“These people were arrested within the vicinity of the home of the President in Nakasero, actually trying to enter without any permitting document,” he explained.

Nsubuga said people must follow the appropriate procedures if they want to address their problems to the president.

He said the President has resident district commissioners as his representatives in each district, where the arrested people should have gone and fixed an appointment with Museveni if it so required.

At the Police station, Sserwaniko told the press that they carried a special message to the president from ancestral spirits of Luweero, where Museveni fought his guerrilla war between 1981-85.

He said the spirits sent them to convey the message, which they refused to reveal to the journalists, insisting it was for the President.

According to Sserwaniko, they spent three days walking from Luweero to Kampala, with spirits leading them to State House.

“The spirits say Museveni is a fellow fighter and they need him to accomplish the norms and other traditional functions that he never performed since he left the bush,” Sserwaniko, with unkempt hair, said.

His ancestors refused him to shave, cut nails, bathe or wash his clothes, he claimed.

The strange pair carried calabashes containing local brew for refreshment as they trekked to the city. They had roasted food, animal horns and other items in their bags.

Sserwaniko complained that security people arrested them on suspicion that they were lunatics.

“We are not mad, but we act on behalf of our ancestral spirits and we shall not leave until we see the president in person,” he vowed. He spoke Luganda, English and Kiswahili.
