HOMEBOY Emmanuel Ruterana made the most of a familiar course, shooting 69 to lead the professionals’ category of the Rwanda Open on Thursday.

Ruterana went into yesterday’s second round three strokes ahead of hitherto dominant Ugandan Deo Akope.

“My putting was not sharp but I will try to catch up,” Akope remarked.

Akope shared second spot with Kenyan Richard Ainley in the $4,000 (sh7m) contest. Other Ugandans Stephen Kasaija (73) and Godfrey Mande (74) were fourth and fifth respectively.

The winner of the 72-hole event contest will pocket $800 (sh1.4m). The 54-hole amateur category of tournament which featured several Ugandans got underway yesterday.
