Sembabule Woman MP Hanifa Kawooya yesterday became the second MP to be charged with forgery in less than a week.

The other is Medi Mulumba of Luuka county, who on Monday was charged with forgery and uttering false documents to evade taxes.

Kawooya was arraigned in court on allegations of forging a diploma certificate of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

She allegedly presented the fake diploma to Nkumba University for admission to a Bachelors degree course.

In the second case, Kawooya allegedly forged a letter from the Uganda National Examinations Board, which she presented to gain admission to the Management and Business Skills Institute.

The charges were brought by her political opponent, Joy Kabatsi.

In a new development, resident state attorney Caroline Nabasa told court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had taken over Kawooya’s prosecution from the private lawyers.
