Diplomats tour Queen Elizabeth park

THE British High Commissioner, Gordon Francois, last Wednesday toured the Queen Elizabeth National Park in preparation for this week’s historic visit of the Queen.
The Queen, after whom the park is named, is scheduled to visit it when she travels to Uganda for a State visit and the Commonwealth meeting.
She will officially open the heads of government meeting on Wednesday.
Francois, who was accompanied by the tourism state minister, Serapio Rukundo, was received at Kasese airfield by the district chairman, Julius Kithaghenda.
The entourage inspected the queen’s pavillion at Kikorongo and Mweya Safari Lodge.
“We appreciate the assistance and enthusiasm from the local administration,†the British High Commission second secretary, John Hamilton, said in an interview at Kikorongo.
“We are ready to host our visitors,†minister Rukundo said shortly before take-off.
The envoy was also accompanied by the British military attaché to Uganda, Lt Col Walton and his assistant, Staff Sergeant Stewart Brethel.
Meanwhile, the UPDF 2nd Division spokesperson, Lt Tabaro Kiconco, has said the army has beefed up security in the Rwenzori region ahead of the summit.
“We have sufficient military capacity and manpower to deter any threat from whatever source. Be it by air, water or land,†Kiconco said at Mweya airfield.
