More judges needed

BUSHENYI-The district chairman, Longino Ndyanabo, has appealed to the Government to increase the number of magistrates in the area so that the case backlog can be cleared quickly. Longino said as a result of the several unresolved cases, especially those involving land, people were killing each other. He, however, noted that some magistrates also unnecessarily postpone cases. “People in the villages are tired. They do not have money to transport them to courts daily while following up cases.” He added that the Nyamushekyera Government Prison was over crowded because of the delay in hearing the cases.

Church raises over sh26m

KABALE-Over sh26m in cash and pledges was collected at a thanksgiving service to raise funds to complete a sh800m hall at Christ the King Church. The Bank of Uganda governor, Emmanuel Tumusime Mutebile, delivered sh10m from the Government and contributed sh2m. He called upon Christians to set up income-generating projects to eradicate poverty. The Parish Priest, the Rev. Bartherzar Ndyomugabi, who led the service at Kabale Municipal Stadium, said over sh80m had been sunk into the project since it started 15 years ago. The ministry of health commissioner, Dr. Francis Runumi, emphasised the importance of education in fighting poverty.
