THIRTEEN Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB) soldiers and Policemen attached to President Yoweri Museveni’s convoy were arrested on Saturday over reckless driving on Entebbe Road.

The soldiers were returning from Entebbe International Airport after the President saw off Queen Elizabeth II, who presided over the Commonwealth meeting (CHOGM).

A source said the soldiers were speeding prompting Museveni to order their arrest. They are being detained at Mbuya military barracks, according to an army source.

“It is normal for soldiers to be arrested if they have done something wrong. They are undergoing disciplinary action for speeding and driving recklessly.”

The source added that the President was not happy that the soldiers had not dimmed their headlights arguing that they could have cause an accident.

The PGB spokesperson, Edison Kwesiga, yesterday said he was not aware of the incident.

“The only incident reported is that in which cars in the presidential convoy nearly rammed into another on their way to Caltex Wampewo.”

Entebbe Road has been preoccupied with the movement of heads of government and delegates in and out of the country.

On Friday, an outrider in Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki’s convoy was involved in an accident on the road.

David Sam Mabonga, a Policeman, also sustained injuries after colliding with a saloon car. He is admitted to Nsambya Hospital.
