THE Ministry of Education and Sports has constructed a hostel for the Mulago School of Nursing and Midwifery to accommodate about 150 men.

The hostel, estimated at sh900m, was last week commissioned by Permanent Secretary Francis Xavier Lubanga.

Lubanga asked the students not to tamper with the paint, doors and beds so that the hostel can be used by many students yet to join the school.

He said the ministry had earlier allocated the money to another institution but they were forced to divert it because of the seriousness of the nursing school’s governing council.

“It was not our intention to fund the construction works of this hostel this financial year but the zeal and the tempo of your governing council forced us to divert the money because these were more serious compared to the other institution,” he said without naming the institution that had been given the money.
He praised the contractor, saying: “The hostel has been completed at everybody’s expectation.

The principal, Margaret Kabanga, said they had attracted students from Eritrea, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe.
