TRADITIONALLY, Digital Video Disc (DVD) players had provisions for VCD, DVD, CD and MP3 discs. There is a new type of DVD players with USB and flash drive jack/ports. With this type of DVD player, besides using the traditional provisions, one can listen to music, watch video and view photographs stored on memory sticks or flash drives.

Anand Nainani, a manager at Saachi World Limited on Luwum Street, says: “This type of DVD player has a variety of functions unlike the ordinary ones.”

Nainani adds that the DVD player with USB and flash drive jack is compatible with various discs such as the DVD, SVD, VCD, CD, HD-CD, MP3/JPEG and WMA. He adds that DVD-R, CD-R, CD-RW, MPEG4 can also be played using the same player.

The USB jack uses three different types of cards/sticks such as the SD, MMC and MS card.

Nainani says with digital cameras, one can have a clear view of the pictures before printing them into still photographs. All that is required is to simply open the card jack, slot in the picture card or memory stick and click the button on the remote control to switch to USB mode.

The television screen will display the pictures saved on the card.
This type of DVD player also has a slot for a flash drive. With a flash drive inserted in the player, one can view pictures stored on it.

DVDs with USB and flash drives come in different sizes, depending on the memory. However, Nainani cautions that before buying the player, have it tested to confirm whether it is in good condition.
