TEN hours of air travel, nine hours on the road, three days in transit, insufficient meals and no workouts briefly describes what the three-man Ugandan team went through before finally making it to the games.

Light middle Ivan Byekwaso was the most impressive though during the preliminaries yesterday.

He faced competition from nine participants of four countries including his team mate Fred Munyagwa.

Munyagwa, who went to the championship as a light heavy (over 80kg) had dropped weight by the time of competition and competed in the light middle as well.

Team leader Twaha Ddungu had during the three day stay at the Dubai airport restricted their diet to a meal a day to avoid absorbing much fats.

John Bosco Ssebabi who won bronze at last year’s championship faced stiff competition from six participants of four countries.

Ddungu blamed the team’s below average performance on fatigue. 47 participants from seven countries are taking part. Nile special sponsored the Uganda team.
