A 26-year-old woman delivered quadruplets last Sunday, writes Ismael Kasooha.
Jackline Katushabe is a resident of Kagezi village in Kakindo sub-county, Kibaale district.

Yowanina Tibaijuka, a traditional birth attendant, helped Katushabe deliver the girls at 1:00pm. Tibaijuka said Katushabe delivered the babies without any difficulty.

“As I attended to the first child, another one came out in less than five minutes. Other babies also followed shortly,” Tibaijuka said on Monday.

“I was overwhelmed because this was my first time to carry out such a multiple delivery,” said Tibaijuka, who has been helping mothers deliver for the last 30 years.

When The New Vision visited Katushabe’s home on Monday, the babies were covered in cottonwool. Neither the mother, nor the babies had received any medical care.

Katushabe said she did not expect to give birth to more than one baby so she had bought clothing for only one.

This was Katushabe’s third delivery. The first two were single births. Her husband, Byomugabi, a peasant, appealed to good samaritans for help.
