GLOBAL warming is around the corner in Uganda. the recent floods in the northern and eastern parts of the country are clear signs of the phenomenon. The glaciers in the Rwenzori Mountains have decreased by about 75% in the last 100 years, outbreaks of diseases such as malaria and ebola can be attributed to global warming.

Kenya has not been spared either. mount Kenya has lost 92% of its glaciers in the past 100 years while mt Kilimanjaro has lost 82% of its ice since 1992. Everyone in our society can contribute to solving this catastrophe. First, we must protect forest such as Mabira.

People should use energy-saving bulbs which can reduce consumption by about 60%. Unplug your refrigerator or freezer which you rarely use. this can reduce the typical family carbondioxide emissions by 10%.

Plant three trees for every tree you cut in your backyard.
When you want to buy a car, look for one with fuel economy in its class. for each litre of fuel you burn, 20% carbondioxide is released into the atmosphere.

Lastly, we the government must pass legislation that will reduce carbondioxide emissions in our beautiful country.
