DESPITE a looming goal-keeper crisis that could see striker Tony Odur put on gloves to save his country, coach Laszlo Csaba is optimistic the Cranes can recover from the Eritrea hiccup and beat Kenya tomorrow.

Uganda topped their group despite falling 3-2 to Eritrea in their final preliminary game. It was a costly match that saw goalkeeper Hannington Kalyesubula and midfielder Tony Mawejje sent off.

‘That was just a little stutter,” Csaba said of the Eritrea defeat.

“It was disappointing, but not the end of the world. We want to change the whole picture by progressing even further in the tournament. People back home should not give up on us,” the national soccer coach said.

Csaba was left sweating on Friday after the suspension of first-choice custodian Kalyesubula left him with just reserve goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge for the quarter-final clash against the Harambee Stars.

In the event that Muwonge suffers an injury during the Kenya match, striker Odur will be asked to occupy the posts.

Odur’s goal-keeping heroics are legendary. The 23-year-old was a talented goal-keeper and helped first division side Kibuye Red Stars, Old Kampala Secondary School and Friends of football soccer team to silverware before being transformed into a striker at Express FC.

Csaba meanwhile knows exactly what his Kenyan counterpart Ghost Mulee is plotting for tomorrow’s cracking quarter-final fixture that will be telecast live by GTV.

After all, both tacticians are just a couple of doors away from each other’s room, share the same lounge, dinning and enjoy the same dishes at Starlight Hotel. The two teams are in one hotel.

‘There has not been any ill-feeling so far between us at the hotel. They seem to be focused but so are we. We are not bothered with what they think or are planning. We are simply focused on how we will go about our game,” Csaba said.
