POPULAR R R ‘n’ B/ Dancehall duo Brick ‘n’ Lace will be flying into town next week to jam at the New Year’s dance. The girls, famous for their debut album Love Is Wicked, will be performing at Hotel Africana on December 31.

They are coming with eight back-up dancers and vocalists who will add punch to the show. They will be curtain-raised by Michael Ross, Henry Tigan, Benon and Vamposs and Dr Hilderman Mazongoto.

Love is Wicked hit the local radio waves in September and has stayed at the top of the charts since. Love Is Wicked is done to fast-paced mix of R ‘n’ B and dancehall.

Push It Up, another of their songs has a heavy dance rhythm. This is the kind of music that will make one jump off the couch and onto the dance-floor. Get That Clear, another of their songs has an unmistakable Akon touch to it. It starts with a small, childlike voice and gives way to thumping rhythms.

The girls have such amazing talent that they would still thrill crowds even if they lived at a time where voices were the only instruments.

Brick ‘N’ Lace (real names Nyanda and Nailah Thorbourne) were born and raised in urban Jamaica. They grew up amid strong influences of American Rhythms and Blues, pop and gospel music, and the homegrown reggae and dancehall.

Their debut album reflects all these genres, along with strong influences of old Skool sensations like SWV, TLC and Vogue. They have done dance and backup for Lauryn Hill and Janet Jackson.

Today, the twins are the first duo to be signed up to Senegalese-American Akon’s Kon Live record label. Big things appear on the Brick ‘n’ Lace horizon, now that their debut album has made them worldwide urban music sensations. The two-year dance party is their first tour of Africa.

Brace yourselves party animals. Here is a slick pop sound to motivate you, stimulate your brain and put you into the mood for a new year.

UTL and Club Beer are sponsoring the show.
