THE national U-19 squad will travel to Canada for the final leg of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers in September. The International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting on Monday announced the venue, amongst the many decisions reached at. Norman Katende reports that Uganda and Sierra Leone, who won the Africa qualifiers in Zambia, will be joined by eight countries from the other regions for the one-week tournament.
The top five finishers at the event will join hosts Kenya for the World Cup in Nairobi in 2010.
Meanwhile, the Uganda senior team stands a chance of winning $25,000 (sh57m), if they win the shield, the second division of the ICC Intercontinental Cup. The runners-up will pocket sh22.8m.
ICC announced that Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Namibia and Bermuda play each other for the shield while Zimbabwe joins Ireland, Canada, Kenya, the Netherlands, Afghanistan and Scotland in the seven-team top division. A match winner in either division will earn a sh6.8m bonus.
