TWO Zimbabwean companies are to participate in the sixth eastern region trade fair, the Uganda Manufacturers Association’s (UMA) chairman of the marketing sub-committee has said.

“This is the first time Zimbabweans are expressing interest in exhibiting in Uganda. The two companies that will exhibit garments and ornaments made in Zimbabwe include Maglow Investments and Sona Creations,” James Kisambira said.

“So far, 200 local companies have registered. Twenty are from Kenya and 10 from Tanzania,” Kisambira told a press conference at the association’s boardroom in Kampala.

He said President Yoweri Museveni was expected to open the fair.

“We expect more Kenyan companies because the Kenya Juakali Association is still registering more,” Kisambira said.

The trade fair that opens on May 28 will close on June 4. It will take place at the Mbale Municipal Council Stadium and will be held under the theme: “Strengthening regional marketing through efficient product development.”

The UMA trade fair coordinator, T. S. Mukasa, said the exhibitors would be in the industrial and manufacturing, building and construction sectors.

Other sectors will be in the clothing, textiles, foods and beverages, education, packaging, printing and stationary, business and financial services, telecommunication and information communication technology, leather, handcrafts and wooden items.
