EDITOR—Contrary to the old-fashioned arguments of our elders, and a few of the Kampala-based Padhola academicians, the youth of West Budama in Tororo thank the NRM government for upgrading our area to the status of a district called Kisoko.

We dissociate ourselves from the backward thinking advanced by those who claim to speak for us. We do not subscribe to their thinking that for any new district to operate properly it must first have tarmac roads, skyscrapers and small mountains around it!

The creation of Kisoko district is good news for the youth because there are automatic benefits that the district brings with it. It includes bringing services and jobs nearer to the rural population, especially in the remote areas of Paya, Kirewa, Peta and Nagongera. We have seen this happen in our neighbourhood of Butaleja. Today, the Banyole are very happy with their own central hospital, two town councils, and fleets of government vehicles.
