THE Police have recovered a vehicle believed to have been involved in the killing of FDC activist Tom Jjulunga.

A second person, Lwanga Wasswa who was Jjulunga’s friend and fellow boda-boda rider was also killed alongside Jjulunga on Saturday night, Police sources confirmed.

The vehicle, a Toyota Corolla registration number UAK161F, which had bullet holes and blood on the seats, was found abandoned at a garage in Kabalagala the following morning.

It was hired by one Baguma, said to be an associate of Jjulunga and Wasswa. “Baguma has a long record of violent crime. He is currently on the run. We are looking for him,” said a Police source.

The vehicle is suspected of having been used to dump Wasswa’s body at a house in Busega.

Earlier, the two had been sighted at a pub on Nabunya Road, hours before they were shot by unknown assailants.

According to a boda-boda rider, Jjulunga and his friend were seen at Wallet Time Pub at around 10:30pm in the company of three other people who were dressed casually.

“They were in a sort of an argument in the parking lot by the roadside adjacent to the pub,” he said.

“After the argument, the men, with Jjulunga in the middle, proceeded towards Kabuusu. That is when I last saw them,” the boda-boda man narrated.

Shortly after Jjulunga was shot, witnesses said, a vehicle of unknown registration dropped him near Rubaga Hospital at around 4:00am. He then struggled to enter the hospital but the cashier declined to admit him because it was not clear who was going to pay the bill.

“He stepped outside the gate and fell down. He had lost his strength and was bleeding heavily,” the witness said.

Jjulunga reportedly told the cashier and watchman of Rubaga Hospital that they had been attacked by thugs who stole his motorcycle and then shot at them.

He also told them that he had been dropped between Rubaga Catholic Church and the hospital by some Good Samaritans.

Policemen at Rubaga post said Jjulunga was carried into their station by security guards of the hospital.

“We just got him from the askaris of the hospital who told us that he had been rejected by the hospital. Where he was shot from, we do not know and nobody has come forward to say anything,” a Police officer said.

“He had difficulty saying anything after mentioning his name. We then contacted the Police 999 patrol which took him to Mulago, where he passed away.”

Meanwhile, The New Vision established that Jjulunga arrived at Mulago Hospital at 5:00am, but was only attended to at 8:00am, when he was admitted. He died around 11:00am.

Asked about the motive of the killing, a Police source said it was either armed robbery, rivalry within the FDC party or a business deal gone bad.

The evening of his death, Jjulunga had attended a meeting convened by local politician Chaapa Karuhanga to mediate between him and FDC activist Falida Nakabugo, whom he had accused of supporting a rival candidate in the recently concluded Rubaga by-elections.
