UK based Rugby Cranes prop Gideon Kamya who has been nursing a strained muscle in the shoulder has been rested for the CAR semi-final/ 2011 World Cup qualifier against Tunisia at Kampala Rugby Club tomorrow.
Kamya, who had been kept out of contact drills during training, passed a fitness test conducted by team doctor Leonard Were Wednesday evening but coaching director Chester Williams opted to rest him until the return leg.
“He passed a fitness test but we don’t want to risk in such a crucial game so I am resting him until the return leg in Tunisia,†Chester said. Cranes need a comfortable home victory before the second leg in Tunis in two weeks.
Kamya turns up for a UK South West division one side Bracknell RFC.
Brian Odongo and Oscar Echulu are the other props that would be on hand to replace Kamya.
The Tunisians were expected to jet in last night and train today at Kampala Club while the Cranes take a break after a month of hard work.
The Uganda team is sponsored by Western Union that injected in sh100m, uganda telecom, Bell Lager, UAP insurance, Coca Cola and G4S.
Meanwhile, the union yesterday launched its corporate social responsibility initiative.
The project focuses on introducing the sport in the war affected districts of Kitgum, Gulu and Pader as vehicle for social rehabilitation and also spread the sport.
The sh100m project, to be funded by the international rugby board (IRB ), was launched by NCS boss Jasper Aligawesa on behalf of international relations state minister Okello Oryem.
“We have set up sh100m budget and we shall be partnering with KKL in this noble cause,†URU boss William Blick noted.
