Dear Doctor,
I am a 22-year-old female. I have had a running nose associated with excessive sneezing especially when it’s cold. I also get these when I am sweeping. It makes me dizzy and tired. What could be the problem?

Dear Luwiza,
THIS is suggestive of a condition called rhinitis. It refers to inflammation in the nasal cavity. The type of rhinitis that starts after the teenage years is usually due to over sensitive blood vessels in the nasal membranes which over react to external stimuli.

This causes the sneezing and running nose. It is related to the female hormones. The best way to control the symptoms may be to avoid the stimuli that trigger the condition.

Stay away from dust, smoke and other irritants. Use only mild perfumes.

See a doctor for a prescription of Antihistamines. Majority of sufferers eventually outgrow the condition. You will be fine.
