YOUR PLATFORM

Recently I felt touched when a parent sold her only land to educate her child. The cost of education is getting higher and higher. Parents go through a lot of difficulty to raise school fees. Some brave the rain and the scorching sun selling tomatoes, onions, roast maize and bananas. Others manage restaurants or acquire loans to finance their children’s education. Sadly though, many children do not know the hurdles their parents go through to raise their school fees. That is why some of them choose not to study or get engaged in acts of indiscipline and end up performing poorly.

My advice to all parents is, therefore, to go with your children to your workplace, especially during holidays or over the weekend, if they are in a day school. Let them see what you go through to earn the money they enjoy. Let them get involved in the process of buying and selling commodities, send them to your hard debtors (those you least expect to settle their debts) and, please, engage them in a one-on-one chat that truly brings out the picture of how hard you toil to get the fees. Who knows what this experience can bring? There are children who think that money grows on trees and parents just go there to pick it. This can be a good lesson for them so that in future, they do not take you for granted.
