KASESE district has launched the construction of a water project worth sh1.49b. The project will benefit Bugoye and Maliba sub-counties. The water will be tapped from the Rwenzori Mountains National Park.

The district also recently launched another sh1.9b water project to supply Hima Town Council. Both water projects are under the south-western branch of the Water and Sanitation Development Facility, locally known as ‘Amaizi Marungi’.

The Bugoye-Maliba project, being constructed by Kisinga Construction, is funded by the European Union, Austria and Tronder Power.

Tronder Power is the Norwegian hydropower company constructing a 13megawatt electricity-generating plant in Bugoye sub-county.

The company contributed water pipes worth sh200m. Presiding over the ground-breaking ceremony at Ibanda Catholic Church recently, the district chairperson, Julius Kithaghenda, said the district would soon start another water project for Bwera village.

“The NRM government’s Prosperity-for-All programme goes beyond financial services. I urge you to use the project to improve your health because health is wealth,” Kithaghenda said.

He said education, agriculture, health and financial services were all geared towards achieving the goals of the programme. Kithaghenda commended the Government for creating an enabling environment for investors and donors.

He added that 27 institutions, including schools and health centres, would be connected free of charge. The Amaizi Marungi project manager, Hillary Mutabazi, said the project would be completed by December.

He commended the district leaders for speeding up the procurement process and the Uganda Worldlife Authority for authorising access to the park water.

The park’s security warden, Maliseri Bwambale, said the authority was committed to promoting good relations with the neighbouring community.

Earlier, Bughoye sub-county chairperson, Aprunale Bwambale, said Tronder Power had given sh1.5b to compensate residents affected by the power project.
