PASTOR Benny Hinn made a loss of $2m (about sh4.4b) on his recent visit to Uganda and two other African countries.
Speaking on Light House Television on Tuesday night, the international evangelist and author said: “Most people are poor in Africa and it affected the recent crusades.â€
Hinn said it was difficult to hold the three crusades in Africa. He added that each of the three crusades in Africa was estimated at $1m (sh2.1b) “but these funds could not easily be got.†He only managed to raise $1m from the three crusades.
Hinn was in Uganda from June 4 to June 6, for the ‘Fire Conference’ on the invitation of Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle Centre Rubaga.
The senior pastor of World Healing Church International, based in Irving, Texas, USA also prayed for the sick during the crusade.
From Uganda, he travelled to South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was his second visit to Uganda.
The first one, two years ago, took place at the Namboole National Stadium.
Hinn said on Tuesday that much as some people may not want to hear him talk about money, “it is important to have money to do God’s work.â€
He, however, pledged to continue with the healing crusades.
Unlike his 2007 visit, when entrance was free of charge, this time participants had to pay $50 (sh110,000).
“It is impossible to run all the activities of this conference, without charging fees,†Kayanja defended the charges on the eve of the crusade.
“These days it is very hard to get free things. The cost of living is high and we cannot avoid incurring costs.â€
Born in 1952 in the port city of Jaffa (in modern day Tel Aviv of Israel), Hinn has become an internationally recognised evangelist. He became born-again during his school days in 1972.
