NKUMBA Marines are firmly on course for the MTN-FUBA men’s first division play-offs, but few will give them much hope against Kyambogo Warriors today.

Warriors are also bound for the play-offs, as has been their tradition for the last four years.

It is their overall superiority over Marines that makes them favourites to emerge victors in the encounter at YMCA.

“I know few people are giving us any chance,” Marines coach Peter Odeke casually acknowledged.

“But it’s not the size of the dog in the fight but it’s the fight in the dog.”

In fairness, Marines have shown great spirit this season in winning four of their first six matches to take charge of their post-season destiny.

“We have beaten KIU, who are a strong team, and also UCU (Canons), so it is possible for us to beat the Warriors.

Gad Etau’s Warriors have lost just once this season and strengthened their squad midseason with the signings of Kenyan international Martin Okwako and Tanzania Abdullah Ramadan.

But Odeke believes his troops, whose two losses came against Falcons and DMark Power, should not be written off against a side he expects to employ “a fast game” He said: “It is not like they (Warriors) are super human.

Everyone with a soul and mind is susceptible to being beaten.”

But if Marines are to upset Warriors, they must drastically improve on their last performance, which secured them a 63-60 win over Ndejje University Angels.

It was a close shave with defeat.
