READING Prof. Timothy Wangusa’s story on Nabumali High School recently, I could not help but feel even more deeply for my school. Memories of the 2004 strike at the school still linger in my mind. I still remember how the administration block went up in flames.

A Senior One student then, I was ignorant of what exactly caused the violence. There was total confusion with people shouting and crying. Teachers tried to rescue the situation by calling the Fire Brigade, but some students called back saying there was no problem at the school. By the time the Police was convinced that something was amiss, the school had already burnt to ashes.

However, there is still hope for Nabumali. Students have realised that violence is not the solution to conflict resolution.

It is time people withdrew negative attitude towards the school. Teachers and students are striving to restore the school to its former glory, especially its academic excellence. Great thanks to the World Bank and the old students who are working hard to rehabilitate the school. The eastern giant is resurrecting.
