POLICE in Kagadi, Kibaale on Friday fired several shots into the air to save three kidnapping suspects from a stone-throwing mob. Residents suspected that the young boy that the three men had in their custody was being taken for ritual murder.

The mob pulled the men from the taxi they had boarded with the boy in Kagadi town at around 6:30pm and started hitting them with sticks and stones.

The commotion drew the attention of the Police and the UPDF, who whisked the men off to Kagadi Police Station.
Kagadi CID chief Eric Wabwire said all the suspects were from Rwanda. He identified them as Enssien Munyemana (44), Bazirohoze Matiasi and Anastanzia Ngonzohozi, all residents of Rugali cell in Murambo, Rwanda.

The men said they were taking three-year-old Geoffrey Tumusiime to Maisuka village in Bwamiramira Sub-county, Kibaale district, where they have land.
On interrogation the trio revealed that they had entered Uganda through the Katuna border on foot and spent Thursday night in a Horizon Bus in Kabale, travelling in it to Kibaale.

None of the men had identification documents or papers to show how they gained entry into Uganda.

Wabwire said the trio would be handed over to the immigration department.
