Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) is upgrading its network to make it compatible with the current information technology trends in the financial sector.

Varghese Thambi, the chief executive officer, said the $2m (about sh4.2b) investment would enable the bank’s Internet and mobile telephone clients access their accounts from any part of the globe.

He said they were also enlarging their flexi cube core banking system to include new features like anti-money laundering software, Internet and mobile banking.

This, he said, would enable clients to order for cheque books, bank statements or check their account balances using mobile phones.

“The facility will improve security,” he said, adding that clients with e-mail addresses would receive account statements on a daily or monthly basis.

“This is aimed at making clients more involved in banking activities,” he told reporters at Kampala Road recently. Thambi said they had also launched VISA credit cards to a selected number of customers, to enable them access finances above their account balances.

“We want to facilitate growth of business in Uganda and expanding our loan portifolio,” he said.
