Entebbe Magistrates Court on Monday granted bail to 12 Democratic Party (DP) activists who had been charged with taking part in an unlawful assembly. They were arrested by the Entebbe Police last Friday as they gathered at the offices of the MP for Entebbe Municipality, Muhammad Kawuma. Entebbe Grade One Magistrate, Agnes Babirye, released them on a sh1m bond, not cash, after 20 people stood surety for them. Their lawyer, Edward Muguluma, said the accused were law-abiding citizens and would not skip court.

Nyanzi sworn in as minister
KAMPALA
President Yoweri Museveni has sworn in the newly-appointed economic monitoring state minister, Vincent Nyanzi. Nyanzi is also the MP for Busujju in Mityana district. He was sworn in on Monday at State House Entebbe. The public service chief, John Mitala, administered the oath.

Kitgum to get mental clinic
KAMPALA
Butabika Hospital is to open a centre in Kitgum district next week. The hospital caters for mentally ill patients. The director, Fred Kigozi, said the district had many such patients as a result of the 20-year-long LRA war. “About 60% of the population in Kitgum and Gulu districts suffers from psycho-trauma,” he said. He was on Monday speaking at the opening of the 2nd East Africa regional psycho-trauma training workshop at the hospital.
