RONALD Nyaika’s hold onto the Mbale table tennis Open will come under scrutiny when action at the annual event starts at St. Austin’s Hall, Mbale this Friday. The championship is the only open event held outside the central region.

Norman Katende
writes that Nyaika, who also holds several individual titles of the Makerere Open, will be up against Cassablanca club team-mate Kevin Mafabi and Sekanyolya’s Edgar Mujuni in the three-day event. All the three have been in vigorous training ahead of the Islamic Games in Tehran, Iran in October.

Mbale is home to Mbale Tigers, producers of many junior star players.
Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Stiga, Elgon Flyer and MTN-Zebra Telecom have financially contributed to the event.
