KYADONDO South MP Isa Kikungwe has vowed to weed out corruption and drug abuse in boxing when he descends onto the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation top seat come August 29.

The 46-year old accountant/politician said yesterday that he was working on a compromise with only challenger Godfrey Nyakana.

Kikungwe and Kampala Central Division boss Nyakana are so far the only candidates for the job at the troubled UABF which has for long been inactive.

Kikungwe said he was forced to join the UABF politics because everything in once Uganda’s most rewarding sport was going wrong.

“I will overhaul the judges and fight corruption. Marijuana among boxers is also a big problem in the sport,” Kikungwe said in an interview yesterday.

He will contest as the Zana Boxing Club chairman while Nyakana comes as Kampala Boxing Club representative.

UABF normalisation committee head Charles Egou said recently that for a club to participate in the polls, it must have paid the sh30,000 affiliation fee.
