70 secondary schools to benefit from $92m project

The education ministry and the African Development Bank (ADB) have launched a five-year post-primary education, training and expansion project worth $91.92m.

The education ministry and the African Development Bank (ADB) have launched a five-year post-primary education, training and expansion project worth $91.92m.
The money from the African Development Fund will benefit 71 schools.
ADB official Benedict Kintu said they would recreate centres of excellence through rehabilitating and expanding 42 schools, two business, technical and veterinary institutions as well as expanding 15 seed schools.
Kintu added that 12 seed schools would also be constructed.
He also disclosed that they would train teachers in how to improve the management of schools and increasing the students’ awareness about career and HIV/AIDS.
Kintu was speaking at Protea Hotel in Kampala during the launch of the project. He said the project will support the Universal Secondary Education and Universal Post-Primary Education and Training programmes through provision of improved access and learning conditions.
Education minister Namirembe Bitamazire said building a strong post-primary education system will enhance social stability and economic development.
The beneficiary schools include Nabumali High School, Mbale SSS and St. Joseph’s College, Layibi. Others are Dr. Obote College, Boroboro and Mbarara High School.
