THE Mbarara Grade II magistrate accused of receiving a bribe has been charged afresh before the Anti-Corruption Court. Moses Ndifuna yesterday denied the charges before Justice John Bosco Katutsi, the head of the court.

The development comes after the Inspectorate of Government (IG) tendered in a new charge, which includes two counts of soliciting for a gratification and corruptly receiving gratification.

Ndifuna had earlier been charged at the Mbarara Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded.

He is alleged to have received a bribe of sh200,000 from Murashid Senkayi, a Mbarara-based businessman.

The prosecution, led by Sarah Birungi, said Ndifuna received the bribe to reopen Senkayi business premises in Mbarara that had been closed on court orders.

The court heard that Ndifuna abused office when he solicited for gratification, an offence he is alleged to have committed on June 16.

Justice Katusti fixed the hearing of the case for September 1, and extended Ndifuna’s bail.

The accused was on July 16 granted a non-cash bail of sh2m after he presented two substantial sureties.
