WHEN you take a live band, couple it with an impressive and vibrant choir –– Light the World –– and top this off with an incredibly gifted lead singer, you will get an explosive music package. This is exactly what happened at Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s Kani album launch at Hotel Africana on Friday.

I dare say it was one of the biggest and most spirited music shows this year; a spiritually uplifting and well-attended show. It attracted thousands of both secular and Gospel music fans, who filled up Hotel Africana’s People’s Space to capacity.

Unlike most launches where multitudes of artistes open for the main act, Kani launch was more of a one-man’s show. It had only two curtain-raisers — Dr. Tee (who sang Gospel music) and Gospel music queen Judith Babirye. Bugembe held his excited and electrified fans with his inspiring songs. Fans could not stop waving their hands in appreciation.

Yet Bugembe never lost his focus. He balanced a good live performance with preaching the love of God, like the pastor he is. This went on for hours. He then stepped on stage at 9:40pm and left it past 1:00am. UB5, the live back up band was effective. The only glitch was the time-consuming auctioning of Bugembe’s portrait by Amarula Family’s Paddy Bitama’s. It was finally sold at sh1.2m. Senior army officers and ministers also attended the show.
