It has been said that one of the ways to safeguard one’s marriage is to lock out third parties as much as possible.
It has been said that one of the ways to safeguard one’s marriage is to lock out third parties as much as possible.
“Third parties†in this case means everyone else including parents, relatives and friends including the best man and maid of honour!
However, I think this approach is wrong especially given the importance of friends, and the golden principle that true friends are a free gift from God.
The mentality defeats a key tenet cherished by Jesus, as well as contradicts some of our conventional behaviours.
During his mission on earth, Jesus told his friends that the most important commandment of all is, “Love your neighbour as you love yourselfâ€.
Unfortunately, many people tend to twist this commandment to read, “Love yourself, then love your neighbourâ€.
It is at this point that the “third party†aspect in marriage attempts to overturn the true meaning of friendship.
When you marry, you must always insure your friends and ensure that they are as safe as you personally would like to be. That should be a golden principle.
