FDC rioters get court bail

THE 10 youthful Forum for Democratic Change (fdc)supporters, who had been remanded at Luzira Prison were granted bail and released on Thursday.

They had been arrested for holding an illegal assembly and demonstration.

The demonstration was against the reappointment of electoral commission boss Badru Kiggundu and his team.

They included Sam Mugumya, the personal assistant to FDC leader Dr Kizza Besigye, Twalibu Kakande, Ali Buni, Isaac Mawanda, Martin Musaazi, Catherine Ddembe, Festos Kirumira, Joseph Malankya, Mukiibi Serunjogi and Samuel Ariho.

Francis Matenga, a Grade One Magistrate at Buganda Road Court granted the bail and their sureties were given a non cash bond of sh500,000.

They are expected in court on September 4 when the case comes up for mention.

Meanwhile, a court official said the supporters became rowdy as they chanted the FDC slogan One Uganda, One People and flashed the V-sign.

“The magistrate was angered and detained them until 5:00pm as a condition before granting them bail,” the official said.
