The East African Centre for Open Source (EACOS) is to host the first East African regional training on business and open sourcing in Kampala.

The course is aimed at forming an army of skilled trainers and advocates to enhance free and open source initiative, and its importance for the information technology industry (IT) in Africa.

“The course builds on more than eight practical case studies of African IT firms, which use open source to generate income-driven innovation, add value and provide low-cost and high-quality software solutions for businesses and administrations in their countries,” a statement from the organisers of the two-week course on Advanced African business models with free and open source software, said.

The course will start from August 31 to September 11. It will be attended by over 20 experts from Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda.
